قديمك جديدهم — your old, their new

A second life for every garment.
A warm meal for every family.

The Mona Elkabani Foundation collects gently used clothing donated by the community, resells it at prices anyone can afford, and turns every pound raised into meals for families across Egypt — keeping fabric out of landfills and food on the table.

Our mission

We believe that what one person no longer needs can still change another person's day — and that caring for people and caring for the planet are the same work.

Who we are

A neighbourhood habit that grew into a foundation

Our Story

Founded by Mona Elkabani

Mona noticed that the clothes people were quietly clearing out of their closets still had plenty of life left in them — and that, sold the right way, they could do far more good in circulation than folded away in a donation bin. What began as informal collecting among friends and neighbours in Egypt grew into a standing effort: gather what's still good, price it so anyone can afford it, and put every pound raised straight toward feeding families nearby.

Our Approach

Sustainability and generosity, in one loop

Every donated garment we resell is one less item bound for landfill — and one more affordable option for a family that needs it. Every sale becomes a meal. There's no gap between the environmental mission and the humanitarian one; at the Mona Elkabani Foundation, they're the same simple mechanism, running on trust and community donations.

Our Team

Run by volunteers who show up, week after week

Behind every rack of clothing and every meal is a small team of women who sort, price, pack, and deliver — in person, every week, across Cairo. It's the same handful of faces the community has come to know and trust.

A circular model

From closet to community, in three steps

No middlemen, no waste — just a short, transparent loop between the people who give and the people who need.

01 · DONATE 02 · RESELL 03 · FEED
  1. 01

    Community donates

Neighbours and local businesses across Egypt donate clothing that's still in good condition — instead of letting it sit unused or end up in the trash.

  2. 02

    Sorted & sold, affordably

Every piece is sorted by hand and priced within reach, so good clothing stays accessible to anyone who needs it — not just those who can pay full price.

  3. 03

    Proceeds feed families

The money raised goes directly toward meals and essentials for families in need nearby — quickly, transparently, and without a middleman.

↻ AND THE CYCLE CONTINUES
Why it matters

Two crises, one small, repeatable answer

Textile waste and food insecurity rarely get talked about together — but the same simple exchange can chip away at both.

For the planet

The fashion industry is one of the most resource-intensive on earth, and unwanted clothing is a huge, often invisible source of landfill waste. Reselling instead of discarding keeps garments in use for longer and reduces the demand for new production.

"Globally, the equivalent of a garbage truck of textiles is landfilled or burned every second." — a widely cited industry estimate

For the community

Affordable, secondhand clothing means families can dress well without stretching a tight budget — and every item sold funds a meal for someone who needs one. It's aid that pays for itself, sale by sale, one closet at a time.
